Brainerd is a charming city located in central Minnesota along the Mississippi River. It is the center of the Brainerd Lakes Area, a popular vacation destination often referred to as "Minnesota's Playground." Brainerd has a rich history, dating back to its founding in 1870 as a railroad crossing site. It was named after Anne Eliza Brainerd Smith, the wife of a Northern Pacific Railroad president. The city is also famous for being a partial setting in the 1996 film Fargo.
